CiCi

Cici is a funny little shy girl, who lays some of my favorite olive colored eggs. Her eggs tend to be speckled and are even hombre colored sometimes, with a darker olive that fades into a lighter olive! I’ve crossed her with Ross the rooster, and expect their babies to lay a darker shade of speckled olive eggs, and sometimes dark brown. I love that Cici has a single feather that sticks up a little on the top of her head…it’s like a tiny crest! Cici’s mom is our white easter egger, who lays deep turquoise eggs, so I wasn’t surprised when Cici’s eggs came out with so much color!

I get a lot of questions about which breeds went into Cici’s genetics. She has Ameraucana in her from her mom, which accounts for the green tint of the egg. She also has Golden Cuckoo Marans in her, which accounts for the egg speckles and cuckoo pattern on her feathers. The darkness of her eggs is from Black Copper Marans. I have no idea where she got her tiny single feathered crest. Maybe there’s some Crested Cream Legbar in there somewhere back in the line that I’m unaware of! Call me crazy, but I think chicken genetics are really interesting!!!
