Olive egger refers to any chicken that has a combination of blue and brown egg genetics, so they can come in many different colors, sizes, and feather types!  In the first generation 1 parent has 2 copies of the blue egg gene, and the other parent has 2 copies of the brown egg gene. Those babies consistently lay olive eggs.  Back cross means that you cross an olive egger back with a chicken that has either 2 copies of the brown or blue egg gene.  Back crossed babies have a 50/50 chance of laying olive or the color they were crossed back to, but the shades tend to be more unique and beautiful as you continue to cross back.  Olive eggers crossed back to dark brown eggers tend to lay very dark shades of brown or green, and sometimes taupe.  When crossed back to blue they tend to lay a very bright shade of blue or a unique shade of green.  The brightest blues we get at Buckaboo Farm come from blue back crosses!  Sometimes you get a rosy, pinkish brown from back crosses, or a beautiful thick bloom, making the egg look almost grey! Of course we cannot guarantee the shade you’ll get from these girls, but that first egg is like a Christmas morning surprise!

We will guarantee the gender for these pullets, so please let us know if we accidentally give you a boy.  We will refund or trade!  All of our chicks are vaccinated for Mareks soon after they hatch!

If you do not know how to care for chickens please do your research before ordering!  We have lots of information on our Chicken Keepers Guide page, and will be adding chicken keeping courses on our Online Chicken Keeping Courses page as we release them.

Please note that this product will be marked as in stock when we believe we will have some available within the next couple of months.  We do not have a waitlist for these birds, but feel free to reach out if you have questions.
